Okay, so granny flat designs that are six by six meters – what do you need to know? My name is Colin Fragar from Council Approval Group.

Now what I want to do is to share with you some tips and tricks as you start to explore your granny flat design. Particularly if you’re going for a six by six meter construction, you probably going for something fairly small.

Advice For a Granny Flat with a 6×6 Design

One important piece of advice that I would give you is don’t just go to a prefabricated construction company, which is just selling you this prefabricated design. Be very, very cautious if they’re saying you don’t need council approval, because usually you do. And I certainly don’t want to have one insurance issues for you with an insurance claim. If something goes wrong you get fined by Council or you may have to demolish which we see unfortunately. We try to rescue people, but it’s better to do the right thing up front first.
Be very, very cautious if they’re saying you don’t need council approval, because usually you do.
So I want to share with you a story and this short story comes from my own personal life. This is a property which I developed and I’m really proud of it. So it actually looks like one house here, but it’s actually a house plus a granny flat attached. So you can’t actually see it but there is an attached granny flat. Now you might not be going for an attached granny flat, you might be going for a detached but the same principles apply. This is a fairly small. It’s 40 square meters. So you’re looking at around that sort of size and, surprisingly, you can get actually a lot of space in there. It’s a one bedroom granny flat and it’s got a very nice living area with a kitchen combined.
