Car parking – You have fantastic ideas for your hardware store, but how will your customers get to you? Will you have adequate parking? Will you be seen to be placing extra burden on existing infrastructure? How do you know what is adequate? How do you get around the town planning rules?

Loading facilities – In addition to parking, do you have an area designated for unloading deliveries or loading up larger purchases for your customers and that will not conflict with car parking spaces and will have adequate maneouvering areas?

Proposed construction – Is your hardware store proposed in an existing building or is it new construction? If you are utilising an existing structure, are structural changes required for the building to meet the needs of your store and standards under the Building Code of Australia additional approvals may be required.

Permissibility – Is your development considered more a specialised retail premises or large scale retail format or garden centre or local distribution premises rather than a standard hardware and building supplies or retail premises. This can have significant implications on the processing of applications, standards applied and potential time delays. Can you move straight into an existing premises without needing any approval and hassle or perhaps also have a cafe?
