So say you’ve just bought a property and you want to subdivide it, when is the soonest that you can subdivide that property? My name is Colin Fragar from Council Approval Group. Congratulations on thinking about a subdivision already in your journey.

It’s really important for you to consider this because often we look out at the backyard of a property and we think,

Wow, I could subdivide that. Imagine what I could do if I was able to release a lot of the equity that’s built up in that property and put it back on market.

When Can You Subdivide a Property?

But the answer really lies in the details. It’s really important that we have a look at your site because a subdivision is very much dependent, not necessarily on the timing of when you bought the property, but actually how we subdivide it.
So there is no limitation of the timing of when you can subdivide a property. It really gets down to the rules and restrictions about the council set in place for your property.
So make sure you grab a copy of Your Ultimate Guide To Council Approval. This will really start you to formulate in your mind, what do you want to achieve. It helps you to go through things like granny flats, secondary dwellings, and dual occupancies, as well as subdivision which is really important. It also goes through some of the seven biggest mistakes that people make in this sort of a project. So make sure you grab your copy by going to councilapproval.com.au.
